2027: More poverty may hit North if Tinubu loses, APC chairman warns

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has warned that the North would be the ultimate loser if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fails to secure a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

Yilwatda spoke on Monday while receiving former chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Princess Aslam Aliyu, who defected to the ruling party.

According to SaharaReporters, the APC chairman cited road projects, student loans, CNG initiatives and fertiliser distribution as some of the benefits accruing to the region under Tinubu.

He also defended subsidy removal, saying northern states benefited from the policy and recalling that many could not pay workers’ salaries and pensioners’ gratuities before Tinubu assumed office.

“The same thing they keep on saying, you know, the outside radio stations tell us that they will return the subsidy. I keep on asking, how are they going to return the subsidy?

“You mean they will stop all these road constructions because they want to return the subsidy? Because there will be no money for this construction, all this road again. The gas they are bringing to the north.”

Earlier, Mohammed Hassan urged APC leaders to integrate the defectors into the party and support their mobilisation efforts for Tinubu’s 2027 campaign.
