2027: Painter of garri to sell for ₦650, bag of rice ₦27,500 under Peter Obi — Pat Utomi
Political economist Pat Utomi has projected that a painter of garri could fall from ₦1,300 to ₦650 if Peter Obi wins the 2027 presidential election.
According to Daily Trust, Utomi said the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) plans to strengthen the naira from ₦1,350 to ₦500 per dollar.
He projected that bread prices could decline from ₦1,750 to ₦800, while a 50kg bag of imported rice could fall from ₦55,000 to ₦27,500.
Utomi also predicted reductions in prices of yam, maize, eggs, petrol and cement.
“We are convinced that targeting a strategic appreciation of the exchange rate by reasonably strengthening it from ₦1,350/$ to ₦500/$ as part of our manifesto is a winning strategy,” he said.
He added: “It offers a direct, multi-faceted approach to curbing inflation, reducing poverty, and lowering the cost of living.”
However, Utomi provided no timeline or detailed implementation measures. The figures remain projections rather than guaranteed outcomes.
