2027 presidency: Northern aspirants should step aside until 2031, Kano governor says

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has urged northern presidential aspirants to wait until 2031 before seeking Nigeria’s presidency, while backing the continued rotation of power between the North and South.

According to Daily Post, Yusuf made the call on Sunday at the Government House in Kano, arguing that each region should be allowed to produce a president for two consecutive terms.

He said completing two terms would give an administration sufficient time to implement major policies and development programmes.

“I urge support for President Bola Tinubu to complete his second term because this would allow the South to complete its two-term cycle before power returns to the North.

“We should allow the South to complete its two-term cycle. After that, power will return to the North in 2031,” governor Yusuf said.

Yusuf urged political stakeholders, particularly those in the North, to exercise patience and allow the power rotation arrangement to continue through the 2027–2031 tenure before seeking the presidency again.
