2027: Tinubu’s 30-day petrol discount cannot undo three years of hardship — Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s 30-day petrol discount, insisting that temporary relief cannot reverse years of economic hardship experienced by Nigerians.

According to Vanguard, Atiku made the remarks during the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on Friday.

“Thirty days cannot erase three and a half years of hardship. Nigerians have heard your excuses and endured your failed promises. They are ready to judge your record,” Atiku said.

He accused Tinubu of adopting aspects of his proposed fuel subsidy policy after previously dismissing the idea.

Atiku questioned whether the discount would reduce transportation costs, food prices and business expenses after its expiration.

He advocated targeted support for locally refined petroleum products, subject to budgetary limits and independent audits.

The ADC presidential candidate also demanded electoral reforms, including transparent collation of results, and urged Nigerians to hold the administration accountable during the 2027 general election.
