Sowore: “I can make Nigeria’s four refineries functional”

African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has pledged to restore Nigeria’s four government-owned refineries to full operation if elected in 2027, according to Naija News.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Sowore attributed the refineries’ prolonged non-functionality to corruption and mismanagement by successive administrations, and argued that local refining would cut costs and generate jobs.

He cited Nigerian-built refineries in Abidjan and Niger Republic as sources of imported fuel. Sowore also said he would retain the petrol subsidy, favouring accountability measures over removal, and criticised officials he accused of benefiting from subsidy-related corruption.
