Nigerian-born Texas prison guard nabbed with prohibited items
Oluwayomi Obed Edom Adeola, a Nigerian-born correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, has been indicted after allegedly being caught with prohibited items inside a correctional facility, Peoples Gazette reports.
The 39-year-old, who joined the TDCJ in July 2025, was arrested last week by the department’s Office of Inspector General on two counts tied to possessing banned items or substances on prison grounds. He spent seven days at the Madison County Jail before his release on a $40,000 bail bond.
Texas law bars smuggling items like drugs, weapons, phones and alcohol into correctional facilities, with penalties ranging from two to 20 years in prison.
