Trump’s Latino support slips as midterms approach
Latino voters who helped drive President Donald Trump’s 2024 gains now favour Democrats in the midterms, Politico reports. A new NBC News/Telemundo poll released Sunday found 59% of Latino registered voters prefer a Democratic-controlled Congress, against 35% who favour Republican control. A CBS News/YouGov poll also released Sunday found 60% of Hispanic likely voters backing a Democratic House candidate and 39% a Republican.
Trump’s approval rating among Latino registered voters stands at 27% in the NBC/Telemundo poll, while 69% disapprove. 67% say his immigration enforcement has gone too far, and 65% say his policies have hurt economic conditions. Democrats lead Republicans on the economy, 48% to 27%, and on cost of living, 45% to 26%.
Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) released an ad criticising the administration on immigration. Trump told reporters: “I’m very strong on the borders — and she isn’t,” The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The NBC/Telemundo survey polled 800 Latino registered voters.
