Wiles exits as Trump names Stephen Miller chief of staff
Susie Wiles is out as White House chief of staff, replaced by Stephen Miller days after Republicans lost both chambers of Congress.
President Donald Trump has named his deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, to replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff, the BBC reports.
Wiles confirmed her exit in a post on X. “Today is my last day as White House Chief of Staff,” she wrote. “Serving President Trump in the White House has been the honor of a lifetime.”
She said, “While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will.” She thanked the “extraordinary people” she worked alongside.
Trump announced the change on Friday in a Truth Social post, saying Wiles did an “outstanding job” and would move to the “Trump Political Operation.” Miller starts Monday.
The change follows Republican defeats in the midterms, including the loss of both chambers of Congress. Wiles gave her resignation on Thursday night, a US official told CBS News, the BBC’s media partner.
Miller is widely considered the architect of President Trump’s hard-line immigration policy.
