Tinubu approves 80% pay rise for junior soldiers
President Bola Tinubu has approved salary increases of up to 80% for junior Nigerian soldiers, marking their second pay rise in a month.
According to BBC News, privates through staff sergeants will receive an 80% increase, warrant officers to colonels 50%, and brigadier generals to generals 30%.
The new structure takes effect in September.
Tinubu said the increase reflects government appreciation for troops battling terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
The military’s annual wage bill is expected to rise from about $484 million to $678 million under the new arrangement.
