Nigeria connects student identification numbers to national NIN registry
Nigeria is integrating the identification records of 80 million students with its national digital identity system as part of efforts to improve government planning and expand NIN registration.
According to Biometric Update, the Education Ministry and National Identity Management Commission are linking students’ 16-digit Learner’s Identification Numbers to the National Identification Number registry through NEMIS.
The integration will provide verified educational data for planning and resource allocation. NIMC is also pursuing a target of 180 million national identity registrations by the end of 2026, with student enrolment expected to significantly boost coverage.
