Canada eyes new Express Entry categories targeting skilled workers in 2027
Canada is proposing new Express Entry categories to attract skilled workers ahead of its 2027 immigration selection process.
According to Punch Newspapers, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has opened public consultations, running from August 4 to September 1, to review existing categories and consider four new talent-focused ones covering artificial intelligence, research, emerging technologies and H-1B visa holders in the US.
IRCC said category-based selection accounted for 87% of Express Entry invitations in 2025, with French-language proficiency remaining the largest single category ahead of the review.
