Sky Sports reporter slams Cristian Romero over final Tottenham exit misstep
Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has criticised Cristian Romero for announcing his Tottenham exit before the club officially confirmed his transfer to Atletico Madrid. Tottenham later announced that the Argentina defender had joined Atletico in a £34.2m (€40m) deal, with Spurs retaining a 15 per cent sell-on clause.
Bridge questioned whether Tottenham supporters would miss the 28-year-old, pointing to his decision to reveal the move ahead of the club. He also argued that Romero’s best performances often came for Argentina and claimed there were occasions when playing for Tottenham appeared to be a chore. Bridge acknowledged Romero’s role in Tottenham’s Europa League success but said the time was right for both parties to move on.
