Concerns as inflation slows, food prices rise
Nigeria’s food inflation rose sharply on a month-on-month basis in July 2026, climbing to 5.56 per cent from 3.75 per cent in June — a 1.82 percentage point increase — despite ongoing federal government interventions to boost food production and reduce consumer prices, Daily Trust reports.
The National Bureau of Statistics attributed the monthly spike to rising prices of crayfish, fresh pepper, onions, rice, tomatoes, beef, eggs and other widely consumed commodities. Adamawa recorded the highest monthly food inflation at 17.02 per cent.
While annual food inflation fell to 20.31 per cent from 26.20 per cent in July 2025, headline inflation also declined marginally to 15.43 per cent — offering mixed relief for millions of Nigerian households.
