Hamzat advises young workers: stay with parents or split rent costs
Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has advised young workers to consider living with parents, relatives, or in shared accommodation rather than renting expensive apartments beyond their means, according to Punch.
Speaking during a Nigeria Info FM interview on Thursday, Hamzat said residents should not spend more than 40% of their income on rent, citing other essential expenses. He cited Lagos’s mortgage board and the LASRRA number system as tools helping residents access affordable home financing. Hamzat added that Lagos was promoting mortgage-based ownership schemes like LagosHOMS, allowing young people to gradually build towards property ownership.
