FG unveils zero-rated education initiative to boost digital learning
The Federal Government has launched the Zero-Rated Access to Education Platforms initiative to expand digital learning access for Nigerian students, according to Nairametrics.
The initiative, launched Thursday in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission, will provide free connectivity to approved academic sites. Education Minister Tunji Alausa said safeguards for minors would accompany the digital expansion, with guidelines to regulate internet access for children under 16 expected soon.
NCC Commissioner Ikechukwu Ugwuegede compared the initiative to the e-book revolution, while lawmakers Mohammed Muntari and Peter Akpatason pledged continued support and oversight for the programme’s rollout.
