Iraola highlights defensive lapses in Liverpool defeat to Fenerbahce
Liverpool lost 3-2 to Fenerbahce in the Champions League, prompting manager Andoni Iraola to criticize key defensive errors, according to The Daily Mirror.
Goals from Trey Nyoni and Alexander Isak were offset by Fenerbahce’s Mason Greenwood, Archie Brown, and Vedat Muriqi. Iraola singled out set-piece defending by Nyoni, Jeremy Jacquet, and Alexis Mac Allister on Muriqi’s header.
Iraola stated: “It’s [a feeling of] frustration, because it’s a difficult place to come here and to play…”
He added: “…the wall, I don’t think we set it properly and the last one Muriqi jumps and wins the ball against three of our defenders, it’s something that definitely we have to defend better.”
Addressing squad changes, Iraola defended his selection: “I trust the squad to sustain the level. I don’t think it was the main reason why we lost…”
