‘Sale of children’: 160 groups petition UN to abolish surrogacy

More than 160 organizations have petitioned the United Nations to formally condemn surrogacy as a form of child sale, according to LifeSiteNews. The Declaration of Casablanca, sent to the Committee on the Rights of the Child on September 14, argues that remunerated surrogacy constitutes “by definition a sale of a child,” echoing a 2019 committee finding.

The petition follows warnings from UN special rapporteurs in 2017 and 2025 that surrogacy often amounts to child trafficking. Advocates argue the practice exploits women and separates children from their biological mothers. The group cited recent cases, including a Texas custody battle over a baby whose intended parents allegedly sought an abortion after a heart-defect diagnosis.
