US imposes visa restrictions on South African officials over anti-white discrimination claims

The Trump administration announced Tuesday it will impose travel bans on South African officials accused of supporting “anti-white discrimination” and enabling land seizures without compensation, according to the New York Post. Secretary of State Marco Rubio cited “race-based discriminatory legislation” and incitement of racial violence against Afrikaners and other minorities.

US Ambassador L. Brent Bozell III warned the sanctions were “only the first step” in escalatory measures. South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola responded by asserting the country’s sovereignty over its own policies. The restrictions follow earlier US sanctions, including barring South Africa from G20 meetings and phasing out HIV treatment aid.
