‘It’s on me’: Carrick accepts blame after Man Utd throw away two-goal lead

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has admitted responsibility for his side’s stunning 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford, acknowledging the frustration felt by supporters after the collapse, according to GOAL.

United appeared on course for a comfortable victory after Shea Lacey opened the scoring with his first senior goal before Mason Mount doubled the advantage two minutes later. However, Brighton dramatically turned the game around before and after half-time, with Charalampos Kostoulas pulling one back before Pascal Gross levelled the contest.

Maxim De Cuyper then completed the comeback to send United crashing out of the competition. Carrick accepted that the result was unacceptable after his team surrendered a two-goal lead on home soil. The United boss said the disappointment must be addressed quickly, with Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Fulham providing an immediate opportunity to respond.
