Nigeria at 66: FG plans low-key independence celebration, Tinubu to address nation

The Federal Government has announced a low-key programme for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, culminating in a nationwide broadcast by President Bola Tinubu on October 1.

According to Vanguard, the government inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Committee to coordinate anniversary activities.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume said the celebration would allow Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding figures and showcase the administration’s reform efforts.

Activities will begin with a world press conference on September 24, followed by a Juma’at service on September 25 and church service on September 27.

An Independence Day public lecture is scheduled for September 30, while Tinubu will address Nigerians on October 1.

The committee includes ministers, presidential advisers and security chiefs.
