Edo school crisis: Pupils learn on bare floor in dilapidated Classrooms despite N145bn FAAC allocation

Growing concern has trailed the deplorable condition of Uokha Grammar School in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, where pupils reportedly learn on bare floors in dilapidated classrooms.

According to MonITNG on X, videos, as reported by Sahara Reporters, showed deteriorated classroom blocks, inadequate furniture and pupils receiving lessons without basic facilities. The organisation urged Governor Monday Okpebholo and relevant authorities to urgently renovate the school, provide desks and chairs, improve toilet facilities and clean up the environment.

MonITNG said Edo received about ₦116.89 billion in gross FAAC allocation between January and June 2026, alongside approximately ₦28.36 billion in July. It questioned why pupils still study in such conditions despite the available public resources.

The group called on the Ministry of Education, education boards and elected representatives from Owan East to intervene, stressing that children deserve safe and decent learning environments.
