Niger deaths: Lawyer Adeyanju joins probe panel, promises to expose any cover-up

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has joined an independent committee established to investigate the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in Niger State.

According to SaharaReporters, Adeyanju said he accepted the appointment to represent the victims’ interests and ensure the circumstances surrounding their deaths are established.

He said he would reject any stipend or honorarium, describing his participation as a national duty, and would cover his accommodation, transportation and expenses.

Adeyanju warned that he would expose any attempt to compromise the investigation, shield those responsible or suppress its findings.

The committee was constituted following controversy over the deaths of the suspects after their arrest.

Adeyanju said the victims deserved justice and urged investigators to prevent interference from undermining the process.
