Tinubu orders governors to cut transport fares, says CNG expanding nationwide

Share:

President Bola Tinubu has directed state governors to ensure Nigerians benefit from lower transport fares from October 1 as the government expands compressed natural gas and electric transportation.

According to SaharaReporters, Tinubu said an implementation committee under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum was working with states and industry stakeholders to identify priority routes and interventions.

He cited fare reductions from CNG and electric transport schemes in Borno, Oyo, Adamawa, Enugu, Plateau and other states, saying cheaper energy must translate into savings for commuters.

Tinubu said more than 120,000 vehicles had been converted to CNG, supported by over 400 certified conversion centres and 90 refuelling stations nationwide.

He rejected calls to restore petrol subsidies, instead urging states to accelerate alternative-energy transport programmes.
