Former KLM CEO allegedly triggers onboard fire defying power bank ban

A KLM flight from Amsterdam to Curacao was forced to return after a power bank reportedly belonging to former chief Camiel Eurlings caught fire midflight.

According to the New York Post, Flight 735 was carrying 322 passengers on September 17 when the device allegedly burst into flames about five-and-a-half hours after departure.

A passenger said Eurlings had been charging the power bank before a bang was heard and flames erupted near his seat. The fire damaged a window shade and seat, while Eurlings reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Cabin crew extinguished the blaze before the captain turned the aircraft around over the Atlantic.

KLM said it could not confirm that Eurlings was aboard or responsible. The plane landed safely in Amsterdam.
