Protest erupts as hoodlums attack nursing students, allegedly rape female student

Hundreds of students of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, protested on Monday after hoodlums allegedly attacked an off-campus female hostel.

The attackers reportedly raped a female student, injured her and cut one of her fingers before stealing phones and other valuables. The victim was taken to GSCN Hospital in Jalingo for treatment.

A students’ union official said it was the second hostel attack within two weeks despite complaints to authorities and a promise of improved security.

The protesters demanded urgent government and security intervention, while questioning why students remained in off-campus hostels despite completed facilities within the college.

The state Ministry of Tertiary Education had earlier recommended stronger security and relocation of students following a previous robbery in which 33 phones were reportedly stolen.

The Provost, Dr Dorcas Dugule, confirmed she was handling the matter but declined further comment.
