Dubai lowers flags, declares 10-day mourning after ruler’s brother dies

Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, younger brother of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has died at the age of 76.

According to PUNCH, the Dubai Media Office announced his death on Monday, prompting authorities to declare 10 days of official mourning and order flags lowered across the emirate.

Sheikh Mohammed, who also serves as the United Arab Emirates Vice President and Prime Minister, paid tribute to his brother, saying he would remain in the family’s prayers and hearts.

Sheikh Ahmed served as deputy chair of Dubai Police and Public Security and was prominent in international horse racing.

He owned several high-profile British racehorses, including Mtoto and Addeybb, as well as Dubai’s Jebel Ali racecourse for decades.
