Niger’s first female police commissioner Diseye Nsirim dies

The Niger State Police Command has announced the death of its former Commissioner of Police, Diseye Nsirim, who died on September 21 after a brief illness.

According to Peoples Gazette, the command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed her death in a statement issued Tuesday in Minna.

Nsirim, from Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, served as Niger State’s 27th Commissioner of Police and the first female police officer to hold the position between 2012 and 2014.

The command described her as a distinguished officer who demonstrated professionalism, courage, discipline and commitment to public safety.

Police Commissioner Adamu Elleman praised Nsirim’s contributions to policing and national security, including operations against terrorist groups, and extended condolences to her family, colleagues, relatives and associates over the loss.
