F-16 jet crash reported close to US-NATO base in Germany

An F-16 fighter jet crashed near Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany on Tuesday, leaving its pilot injured after ejecting from the aircraft.

According to the New York Post, the fighter jet was approaching the US and NATO airbase in Rhineland-Palatinate when it crashed.

A spokesperson for the base said the pilot successfully ejected but sustained injuries and is receiving treatment. Further details about the pilot’s condition and the cause of the crash have not been released.

The incident occurred after 12 F-16s from Oklahoma’s 138th Fighter Wing departed Germany for the Middle East Tuesday.

However, the unit told the newspaper it was not aware of any incident involving aircraft assigned to it. Authorities are expected to investigate the crash.
