Babachir Lawal defects to NDC, declares support for Obi, Kwankwaso

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, three months after resigning from the African Democratic Congress.

According to Punch, Lawal announced his defection in Abuja on Tuesday and declared support for the NDC presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso for the 2027 elections.

Lawal said he joined the opposition party because of concerns about insecurity, hunger and challenges facing Nigerians.

NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson welcomed Lawal, describing him as a political mobiliser and assigning him a leadership role in its North-East campaign.

Lawal left the ADC three months earlier, alleging its presidential primary was manipulated to favour Atiku Abubakar. He claimed results were altered and declared winners replaced.
