Joseph Yobo tips Iwobi to overtake Musa as Nigeria’s most-capped player

Former Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo believes Alex Iwobi can surpass 130 international appearances, after the Fulham midfielder became only the fourth Super Eagles player to reach 100 caps, according to ESPN.

Iwobi reached the milestone against Portugal in June, joining Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and current record-holder Ahmed Musa, who has 110 caps, in Nigeria’s centurions’ club.

Yobo, Nigeria’s first player to hit 100 caps, said the 30-year-old’s professionalism and commitment give him every chance of surpassing Musa’s record, adding that reaching 100 appearances requires discipline and consistency to remain competitive over a long international career.

Iwobi made his Nigeria debut in October 2015 after switching allegiance from England, and has remained a regular under successive coaches. He is included in Eric Chelle’s squad for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Yobo also noted that Paris FC’s Moses Simon, on 99 caps, could become Nigeria’s fifth centurion in the upcoming qualifiers, urging the Nigeria Football Federation to formally recognise such milestones.
