Tinubu to return to Nigeria Sunday after extended working vacation

President Bola Tinubu will return to Nigeria on Sunday after a working vacation in Europe, according to TheCable, which cited sources familiar with his itinerary.

According to presidency sources, Tinubu is expected to stay in Lagos for up to a week before heading to Abuja. He had left Nigeria for London on August 30 for what the presidency described as a three-week working vacation, later travelling to Paris before extending his stay abroad, with officials saying he remained in touch and continued directing government affairs remotely.

Tinubu’s prolonged absence has since sparked a constitutional debate, with lawmakers under the Save Democracy Group asking the National Assembly to reconvene and determine whether he complied with Section 145 of the constitution, which requires a written declaration transferring power to the vice-president during any absence beyond 21 days. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP and the ADC have separately demanded clarity on the exercise of presidential powers during this period.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has since insisted there is “no vacancy” in Aso Rock, maintaining that Tinubu remains firmly in charge despite the controversy — a defence now set for its first real test with the president’s Sunday return.
