Harry Kane breaks rare UEFA penalty rule during England’s defeat to Spain

According to Daily Express, Harry Kane accidentally broke a rare UEFA rule while missing a penalty during England’s 3-2 Nations League defeat to Spain at Wembley. Kane’s standing left leg touched the ball before his right foot struck the spot-kick, with the double touch only becoming apparent on replays.

The Bayern Munich striker’s effort hit the underside of the crossbar and stayed out, meaning the incident did not affect the final result. Under IFAB Law 14, adopted by UEFA in 2025, a double-touched penalty that goes in must be retaken, while a missed attempt results in an indirect free-kick to the opposition.
