Five Britons arrested over alleged terror plot near US-used UK airbase

Five British nationals have been arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack near RAF Fairford, an English airbase used by United States long-range bombers.

According to CNN, the five London residents, aged between 23 and 25, were arrested early Sunday near the base in western England, where US B-1 bombers have flown missions against Iran.

Counter-terrorism police described the investigation as a “hugely complex and large-scale operation,” with “multiple new lines of enquiry.”

Authorities have not disclosed what was discovered inside three white vans allegedly used by the suspects. Bomb disposal equipment was seen near the vehicles, while witnesses reported hearing controlled detonations.

The suspects were initially detained over alleged explosives offences and later arrested “on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act.”

British authorities have not identified the suspects or disclosed where they are being held.

Iran’s embassy in London has rejected speculation linking Tehran to the incident, calling such claims “unfounded and malicious.”
