INEC sets date for nationwide collection of PVCs ahead of 2027 polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards will begin on October 9, 2026, ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

According to Daily Post, INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan announced the date on Monday during the North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment for the 2027 General Election in Kaduna.

Amupitan said the recent voter registration exercise produced more than 10.7 million new registrations and called for the removal of bottlenecks affecting PVC distribution at Local Government Area offices to prevent eligible voters from being disenfranchised.

He also said INEC was refining its technological systems for voter verification, result transmission and result management, including the newly introduced eEC8A.

The commission is also implementing a “Zero-Failure” logistics strategy covering early deployment of election materials, transportation, security coordination and training of ad-hoc personnel as preparations intensify for the nationwide polls scheduled for next year across Nigeria.
