Nigeria now worst place to be born — Peter Obi
Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has described Nigeria as “the worst place to be born,” citing worsening poverty, insecurity, hunger and unemployment.
Obi made the remarks in his Independence Day message on Thursday, as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary. According to Vanguard News, he criticised the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government over what he described as deepening challenges across critical sectors.
“Despite the promises made by the APC government in 2023, our nation continues to face deepening challenges across virtually every critical sector of national life,” Obi said.
He cited poverty, insecurity, out-of-school children, hunger and mortality, while also referring to the recent deaths of 37 young Nigerians.
“Today, Nigeria is the worst place to be born. Our youth unemployment is the highest; over 35 million youths are unemployed, and we have one of the worst drug prevalences globally.”
Obi’s comments came hours after President Bola Tinubu said Nigeria had moved beyond economic reforms and was entering an “age of prosperity.”
