Utah man files defamation suit against Candace Owens over Kirk killing claims
A Utah man who witnessed Charlie Kirk’s assassination has sued conservative commentator Candace Owens, alleging she falsely linked him to the killing.
According to KUTV, Robert “Robby” Hild Jr. filed the lawsuit in federal court against Owens and two companies connected to her media platforms.
The complaint alleges defamation, emotional distress and false-light invasion of privacy over podcast episodes discussing Kirk’s September 2025 assassination.
“Because I got to identify that guy in the blue hat,” Owens said during one episode, according to the complaint.
Hild argues video evidence showed he was in the audience when images of the suspected gunman were captured elsewhere on the Utah Valley University campus.
His lawyers said, “Owens’ lies about our client have destroyed his reputation and his privacy.”
The lawsuit alleges Hild subsequently received death threats, experienced stalking and vandalism, and was forced to leave Utah temporarily.
Hild is seeking damages, punitive damages, legal fees and other costs through the lawsuit.
