According to the BBC, students and faculty said the case had cast a “dark cloud” over the campus after the accuser, identified as Jane Doe, filed a civil lawsuit against Cornell in September.

“We deserve to know that our institution values our safety more than its reputation,” undergraduate Sophia Riley Sim said at Thursday’s student assembly.

Student assembly chair Eeshaan Chaudhuri added: “We don’t tolerate it here on campus, and I think I can speak for every single one of us, and I can say we’re absolutely ashamed of the events that happened on our campus.”

Cornell says it conducted an “extensive investigation” and imposed sanctions, including expulsions and suspensions.
