Elon Musk takes swipe at Instagram, says it is ‘for girls’
Elon Musk has renewed his criticism of Instagram, declaring that the Meta-owned social media platform is “for girls” in a post that sparked debate online.
According to Vanguard, Musk made the remark on October 1 while responding to Geiger Capital, which announced that it had deleted its Instagram account.
“Officially deleted Instagram. An inherently female app. Zero benefit,” Geiger Capital wrote.
Musk responded: “Instagram is for girls.”
The exchange triggered mixed reactions on X, with some users criticising Musk for reinforcing gender stereotypes while others defended or joked about his comment.
Musk made a similar remark in May, writing: “Lmao. Instagram is for girls.”
He later added: “Sometimes grown men send me their Instagram profiles and I’m like are you transitioning or what?”
Musk, who owns X, has previously criticised Meta-owned platforms and publicly clashed with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
His latest statement offered no evidence explaining why he associates Instagram with a particular gender.
