Panic as helicopter crashes in Ondo coastal community…many feared dead
Several people are feared dead following a helicopter crash in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, throwing residents of the coastal community into panic as emergency efforts reportedly began to reach the crash site.
According to SaharaReporters, the number of people aboard the aircraft and the condition of possible survivors remained unclear at the time of reporting.
A resident who confirmed the incident said: “Yes, it’s true. A helicopter just crashed now at Igbokoda, Ondo state.”
Community sources said efforts were underway to access the scene and establish the number of casualties and circumstances surrounding the crash.
Ondo State Police Command spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh told SaharaReporters that he was unaware of the incident but would make inquiries.
Igbokoda is a riverine community in oil-producing Ilaje, where helicopters are frequently used for oil and gas logistics operations.
