JJ Gabriel included in Man Utd team photo despite ongoing rift over exit
Manchester United have included highly rated teenager JJ Gabriel in their official 2026-27 team photo despite an unresolved dispute over his future, with several European giants reportedly monitoring the youngster. According to BBC Sport, the photograph was taken on 8 September, two days before Gabriel informed United of his intention to leave.
The 16-year-old has not returned to the club since scoring a hat-trick against Sabah FK in the UEFA Youth League. United reportedly made attempts to repair the relationship but have so far been unsuccessful. Real Madrid and Barcelona are among the clubs understood to be interested in Gabriel, whose European Union passport could make a move abroad easier.
United retain his registration and could consider legal action if evidence emerges of an illegal approach by another club or agent. Gabriel enjoyed a remarkable 2025-26 campaign, winning both the Premier League Under-18 Player of the Year award and United’s academy equivalent.
