Anambra CP to discipline DPO, officers over suspect’s mysterious disappearance from custody
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered disciplinary action against officers following the alleged disappearance of an armed robbery suspect from the 3-3 Police Station.
According to SaharaReporters, police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the Commissioner ordered queries against the Divisional Police Officer and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, while disciplinary proceedings were initiated against an Inspector.
The action followed a viral video alleging that a robbery suspect taken to the station could no longer be accounted for.
Ama described the allegation as serious, stressing that the Command would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or breaches of police procedures.
He also directed the Command’s X-Squad to investigate the suspect’s arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent disappearance.
The Commissioner further ordered measures to facilitate the suspect’s arrest and pledged that the investigation’s findings would be made public.
