AOC: If El-Sayed pulls off victory in Michigan, lefties can win ‘anywhere’…
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez privately said that a win for Michigan Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed would open the door for left-wing candidates nationwide, the New York Post reports. Speaking at a Monday fundraiser for El-Sayed, the New York Democrat said: “Because if you can win, if Abdul can win in Michigan, anybody can win anywhere.”
The remarks come as Ocasio-Cortez weighs a 2028 move, including whether to run for the White House, Senate or House. She is polling fourth among top speculated Democratic presidential contenders, behind Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg, according to the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate. El-Sayed holds a 3.6 percentage point edge over Republican Mike Rogers, per the same aggregate.
El-Sayed called the race “for all the marbles.” Some pundits caution against reading too much into the Nov. 3 results. Matthew Yglesias wrote on X: “Why would you draw this inference from someone being able to narrowly win Michigan in a year with a D+9 generic ballot?”
