FG offers 30-day discount on petrol sold by NNPC
The Federal Government has announced a 30-day discount on petrol sold by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), with public transporters receiving priority nationwide.
According to Channels Television, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed the initiative during a press briefing on fuel prices and subsidy concerns in Abuja on Thursday.
Oyedele explained that the arrangement would allow the government to sell petrol at cost rather than subsidise its price.
“We are offering a discount on petrol dispensed by NNPC limited for the next 30 days in the first instance with priority for public transporters nationwide. So, it’s not a subsidy, government is just saying we sell to you at cost.”
The announcement comes amid concerns over rising fuel prices and transportation costs across Nigeria.
However, the government has yet to disclose the discount rate, the expected pump price or detailed arrangements for accessing the offer.
Further clarification on the implementation is expected.
