NLC gives FG 14 days to reduce petrol prices, review minimum wage
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to reduce petrol prices and begin renegotiating the national minimum wage or face possible industrial action.
According to Vanguard, the ultimatum followed a joint meeting of the union’s National Executive Council and Central Working Committee in Abuja.
NLC President Joe Ajaero said the deadline would begin on Friday, October 9, 2026.
The union demanded that petrol prices return to their levels when the current minimum wage was approved in 2024.
It also called for wage renegotiations before October ends, tax relief and immediate payment of wage awards to workers.
The congress further demanded implementation of agreements reached with healthcare unions and public sector workers.
The NLC blamed rising inflation, currency depreciation and fuel costs for worsening economic hardship.
It urged affiliates to remain prepared for further action if the government fails to meet its demands within the deadline.
