US will not attack Iran before midterm elections — Trump
United States President Donald Trump has announced that his administration will not launch military strikes against Iran before the November 3 midterm elections.
According to CNN, Trump made the announcement on Thursday through his Truth Social platform amid reports that Washington was considering fresh military operations against Tehran.
“We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3rd,” Trump declared.
He said his administration was “having productive discussions” with Iranian officials, emphasising his determination to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
However, Trump insisted that the blockade of Iranian ports would remain in force.
The US Treasury Department also announced fresh sanctions targeting 17 vessels allegedly involved in transporting Iranian oil in violation of existing restrictions.
American officials have reportedly prepared military options targeting Iranian energy and nuclear facilities.
Meanwhile, Tehran is considering a US proposal concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
