Democrats begin revealing redacted names in Epstein files
Democratic lawmakers in the United States are revealing previously redacted names in files relating to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, intensifying calls for investigations into individuals allegedly connected to his activities.
According to The Times, the latest disclosures have placed Leon Botstein, former president of Bard College in New York, under scrutiny following allegations raised by House Judiciary Committee Democrats.
Representative Jamie Raskin alleged that an unredacted 2014 email linked to Botstein raised questions about his potential involvement in Epstein’s abuse. Raskin said the evidence warranted a criminal investigation and accused federal authorities of failing to act.
Botstein denied the allegations, stating: “Any assertion that I knew of or was involved in Epstein’s criminal behaviour is wrong.”
He said he resigned from his remaining positions to protect the institution from further distraction.
The Justice Department previously concluded its review without identifying evidence warranting investigations into uncharged third parties. However, Democratic lawmakers are pressing authorities to examine potential accomplices.
No criminal charges have been brought against Botstein in connection with the allegations.
