VIO Officer Killed While Trying to Stop Truck for Inspection
A Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) was crushed to death by a truck on Friday while attempting to stop the vehicle for inspection in Akure, Ondo State.
According to Daily Post, the incident occurred opposite Mega Primary School along Hospital Road during a routine vehicle documentation check.
Eyewitnesses said the officer stepped directly in front of the approaching truck to compel the driver to stop, but the vehicle, travelling on the fast lane, could not halt in time.
An eyewitness identified as Busayo recounted the incident, saying:
“The VIO officer was standing in front of the truck, trying to stop it for inspection. But the vehicle was already on the fast lane and before anyone could realise what was happening, it had already knocked him down.”
She added that several minutes passed before the officer’s body was retrieved from beneath the truck.
Sympathisers gathered at the scene as shocked colleagues called for rescue assistance.
