Christa Pike discharged from hospital after failed execution, lawyers say
Christa Pike has been discharged from hospital and returned to prison more than a week after surviving a botched execution in Tennessee, United States.
According to ABC News, her attorneys confirmed the development on Saturday, October 10, 2026, saying she would continue receiving medical treatment while in custody.
Pike was scheduled for execution by lethal injection on September 30, but the procedure failed after she reportedly continued breathing despite receiving the injections.
Emergency responders subsequently rushed her to hospital, where she received treatment before being transferred back to prison.
Her legal representatives, Stephen Ferrell, Luke Ihnen, Randy Spivey and Kelly Gleason, said they would continue monitoring her recovery.
“She is grateful to the first responders and her medical team for their care in these extraordinary circumstances,” Pike’s attorneys said in a statement.
The failed execution has prompted renewed legal proceedings, with her lawyers urging Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to commute her death sentence.
Pike’s condition remains under medical supervision.
