EFCC prosecutes Nigerian-American over alleged $680,000 car import scam
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a Nigerian-American, Oluwatobi Adegoke, over an alleged $680,000 vehicle import fraud.
According to PUNCH, Adegoke appeared before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja on October 8, 2026.
The commission alleged that Adegoke belonged to a United States-based syndicate that defrauded Nigerians through fraudulent vehicle import transactions.
Investigators claimed he advertised a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG to prospective buyers, with two victims reportedly paying over $320,000.
However, the charge accused him of dishonestly converting $680,000 belonging to Ikechukwu Osita Ifeabunike in December 2024.
The money was allegedly transferred to his company, Omosco Auto Sales LLC, for a vehicle purchase.
Adegoke pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution requested his remand pending trial, while defence counsel sought EFCC custody.
Justice Abike-Fadipe ordered his remand at Kirikiri Correctional Centre and adjourned proceedings until January 13, 2027, for trial.
