Lille consider legal action after Tiago Santos suffers season-ending ACL injury
Lille are considering legal action after defender Tiago Santos suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Saturday’s Ligue 1 victory over Le Havre. According to ESPN, the French club confirmed on Monday that the 24-year-old right-back ruptured the ACL in his right knee following what they described as an “uncontrolled and dangerous” tackle by a Le Havre player.
Lille did not name midfielder Amir Richardson, who was not booked or sent off for the challenge. The Portuguese Under-21 international previously suffered an ACL injury to his left knee in October 2024. Lille have requested explanations from the French league and federation regarding the officials’ video review process, arguing that the challenge warranted a straight red card.
The club also want the incident referred to the league’s disciplinary panel. “The circumstances of the incident and the lack of any sanction raise serious questions for the club,” Lille said. Lille, second in Ligue 1, face Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday.
